WEDDING DRESS FABRIC
A flowing wedding dress fabric made from silk or rayon that drapes well on the body. Chiffon is delicate, sheer, and transparent with a soft finish. It practical for plus size beach wedding dresses or a reception dress.
There are numerous types of laces used as wedding dress fabric. REAL SIZE BRIDE primarily uses Chantilly Lace, Beaded Lace and Corded Lace.
One of the most well-known types of lace, Chantilly Lace is very fine and delicate, and made on a lightweight hexagonal mesh background. The patterns are sometimes outlined in a heavier silky thread to exhibit a shading effects. Chantilly lace typically has doubled scalloped edges.
This type of lace, embellished with beads, crystals and sequins produces a slightly antique look, often with a scalloped edge. As the name beaded lace implies, it is adorned beautifully with jewels making you sparkle!
These laces are elegant and originally made exclusively in France. Also called as Alencon lace, its formed by outlining areas in the lace using a heavier thread, giving these laces a three dimensional look. Its fine, light, flowy and makes beautiful full figured wedding dresses!
Silk Organza is a fine, lightweight, sheer fabric often used as an outer layer to add an outline. Its also used to make skirts fuller. Organza gracefully falls to produces attractive lines.
Polyester Organza is a crisp, sheer, lightweight weave fabric, with a medium yarn count. Its slightly wiry and has a high sheen. It is heavier than chiffon but with more body.
Satin perhaps has the greatest variations of wedding dress fabric, however REAL SIZE BRIDE exclusively carries Poly Duchess Satin, Crepe Back Satin, and Charmeuse.
Poly Duchess Satin
Polyester Duchess Satin is a shiny, heavy and luxurious fabric. It is a popular choice for a plus size bridal gown because it drapes well creating full, beautifully bottomed skirts. The poly-blend produces minimal wrinkles.
Crepe Back Satin
Crepe Back Satin glows in the light unlike no other fabric can. It has a rich satin sheen on one side, and fabulous crepe texture on the back. This elegantly smooth material is so easy to work with.
Charmeuse is a luxury wedding dress fabric made from silk with a satin finish. It is extremely lightweight and has a glossy finish. It does tend to wrinkle so make sure you steam prior to wearing. Its wise to take it out of the garment bag and let it hang to lessen any wrinkles.
There are several misconceptions about taffeta, primarily that taffeta should be more for bridesmaids and mother of the bride dresses due to the thicker material and “crunching” noise when you walk. REAL SIZE BRIDE only uses Silk Taffeta, NOT acetate taffeta, which is lower grade taffeta not ideal for full figured wedding dresses. Silk Taffeta on the other hand is one of the most elegant special occasion fabrics, used for centuries for its crisp and dramatic nature. Silk Taffeta is a pure silk fabric that has a polished or glassy look.
Tulle is a lightweight, very fine netting. Tulle is often used as an accent, to create a lacy, floating look. Tulle can be found in underskirts or petticoats to create a stiff bell shape. A plus size bridal gown will often be puffed out with the use of several layers of stiff tulle.
